Dark, addictive, mysterious, exciting, spooky, seductive, magical … How many more adjectives could be added to define the Halloween party? One thing is certain: the Halloween spirit is contagious. Perhaps this is why today the Halloween party is one of the most heartfelt and celebrations spread throughout the world and of course also in Italy.

Since its beginning, long time ago, Halloween has helped men to stimulate people’s creativity, to familiarize with their fears, to look at reality from another point of view.

For the Celts, Halloween was a way to greet the arrival of winter. For the early Church was the eve of All Saints (All Hallows Eve). From the fifties it became the children’s festival and the nice motto Trick or treat?. In recent years the night of October 31 is celebrated as a feast fantasy: a sort of irreverent carnival macabre.

Today Halloween can be considered for all purposes a globalised party, with many different ways to be celebrated in different parts of the world. With Halloween coming the highlight will be Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 – there are opportunities to celebrate for young and old people, one of the most entertaining parties and “appalling” inherited from the Anglo-Saxon world.

However Halloween was often in the ancient culture also a celebration of abundance, because it marked on the calendar as the last day of the year for the peasants. The pantries were filled, flocks away and was preparing for a rest in the long winter holidays.

With the rise of industrial civilization mature, with its excesses depersonalizing spread in modern man the desire to rediscover the ancient rural traditions and to restore a forgotten relationship with nature. Halloween was there, ready to exert all the charm of an ancient festival, liberating, enthralling, subversive, where the rules of ordered society could be called into question, at least for a day.

The Passage of Terror is a forced path in which there are scenes and situations in key horror-thriller. The audience enters in small groups and is a living part and parcel of this spectacle of thrill.
Ghost Experiment continues the fascinating journey into the world of the supernatural. Getting ready for the highly anticipated 2015 experiment scheduled for October 29, edited by the Ghost Finder Italy.
The Night of Lucida: The noblewoman Lucida Mansi will be released every year by the hell in the company of the high Lucifer in which the hapless offered his soul. Glossy retrace his life up to sink again in hell.

Gardaland Magic Halloween
Monsters, skeletons, spiders and vampires come back to populate the streets of Gardaland, the famous amusement park in the province of Verona.

On the evening of October 31, doors open up to midnight to enjoy all day the theme shows and participate with the zombies at the Halloween Party in the Valley of Kings square. For those who want to stay the night there is a special package Magic Halloween.

Halloween in Italy: a creepy and bloody discovery

Halloween in Italy: but what to visit that retain a taste for the scaring that we like so much? There are spooky places in Italy that can be visited any time of year. Are you ready for exploring these creepy sights?

Benevento, in southern Italy, is called the City of Witches, a big part of its folklore. Are witches not that gruesome? Several towns in Tuscany can offer torture museums with items used to torture victims during the Inquisition. San Gimignano has one of the best! Also in Umbria, beneath the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Narni, you can visit the underground torture chambers.

Talking about deads and the other world after life, go and visit San Michelle, the Venice‘s cemetery island with two churches and many tombs. In early November the cemetery is full of flowers for All Saint’s Day. Going south, more than 40,000 corpses has been dumped into a cave just outside the city walls of Naples, during the plague.

Not recommended for young children, the mummy exhibition in Ferentillo’s Mummy Museum located below the Church of Santo Stefano in Umbria and the Mummies Cemetery in Urbania’s Church of the Dead in Le Marche are the creepiest places to visit. Mummies are pretty scaring also near Palermo, Sicily, in the Capuchin Monastery , not to mentioned the Capuchin Crypt in Rome’s historic center.

Are you still in Rome? Plenty of scary places including catacombs and crypts, like the Museum of Purgatory, a Monster House, and the Vatican necropolis close to Rome. The scary trip can end here, but do not underestimate what can happen during Halloween even in Italy.

Happy Halloween in Italy

Halloween, or All Saint’s Eve, is becoming a popular day for costume parties and events also in Italy. While the main Italian important and holy holidays are All Saints Day on November 1 and All Souls Day on November 2, the celebrations for Halloween are spreading in many Italian regions.

Get prepared! Halloween costumes and decorations can be found in shops and costumes’ stores. Many children’s costume parties are mainly held during the day; in the evening many nightclubs, bars, and restaurants get crazy organising special Halloween costume parties and events.

Urban Trekking holds in different Italian cities some special All Saints Eve walks. These trips often offer special visits under the moon and in the deepest dark to medieval castles and towers, creepy crypts and dungeons.In some cities you can find also children’s walks of the same kind during the afternoon.

Generally, Italy has several displays of mummies and bones in catacombs, churches, and crypts, not just for Halloween, but it is fun doing those kind of visits during this peculiar period. But look after your children: these mummies have been naturally preserved and the display can be really a chilling and gloomy sight.

Do not forget that Italian amusement parks held special weekend events in October for Halloween. For instance, if you are near Lake Garda, pay a visit to Gardaland. The famous amusement park offers Magic Halloween, which includes a ghostly and funny “spirits’ parade”!!! And if you go there dressed up in monster costumes, they will get you a reduced prices: check which is the weekends in October when the offer lasts!

Movieland has Rock’n Halloween every weekend in October and is open until midnight on Halloween night.

A few restaurants offer special dinners for Halloween with the pumpkins as a queen among the other ingredients. Delicious as always the Italian food, of course even at Halloween!!!
